Ephemerality of Gesture

Through drawing, paint and photography, I work with the hands in grasping, touching and holding to reflect on the reach for connection, it’s possibilities and failures.

Is the desire of touch all about the visual?  After all we do not reach out to touch something that we have not seen.  For me, at least, I see and then I have the desire to touch.  And touching makes my world more concrete as if only seeing potentially makes it intangible but touching makes it tangible, pinning the world down to something that I can grasp.  So the two are linked, or linked at least in the concrete world: as the world becomes increasingly digital, is my interaction to consist mostly of the sensation of the tips of my fingers on the keyboard of my computer?

Set One: The gesture in space

Set Two: Gesturing before
